Choice vs fate. A short fable, it starts like many another tale…
Once there was a king who believed, as did all his people, that he was born to kill out evil. He believed, as they all did, in the irrevocable law of karma. The king and all the people also believed in the power of the curse.
Eventually, their greatest fear, which was their belief in duality, came to pass. The people became split into two factions. One side felt obliged to fight a great war, the other to defend. Bad feelings on both sides escalated until there was no other choice. Their belief in ‘no-choice’ ended up in the senseless killing of most of the people.
The king wandered amid the ruins of battle pondering the choice he made that lead to all this.
Along the way, he met a powerful sage, who cursed the king for allowing all this destruction. The king believed in this curse as his fate or karma. He wandered until, just as the sage predicted, he was accidentally killed by a hunter.
And so, the king and his grand kingdom were no more.
But…
What if the king believed in the power of choice? Chose to nurture that power of choice within himself? Stopped choosing to feed his emotions with the belief in karma as fate? Instilled this new power of choice into the hearts and minds of his people, and it prevented their destruction?
And what if the sage used his great power not to curse but to bless and heal?
You and I are Choice Personified.
We are each the king. Each of us is one of the people. Each the sage. And today is a new day. So we have new opportunity, to choose wisely. What do you choose this day?
To bless and heal. It starts within me and the choices I make. I choose to bring joy to the world. I choose love.
What is my daily plan? How shall I treat myself. What should I do on a daily basis so that at the end of 2015 I can say that I blessed and healed myself and those that I have come in contact with each day.
Beautiful – these are the kind of questions we can each ask ourselves, to evaluate our intentions along the way. And, now, to guide us as we plan for the New Year. Blessings, Jose!!
